John Tacchi

Although hailing from a medical family, I read Law at Cambridge and qualified as a Barrister, practicing in General Chancery chambers. I then pursued an interest in Tax Law at Peat Marwick Mitchell before going into the City. I spent 15 years in investment banking working for such internationally renowned firms as S.G. Warburg, Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch. I left mainstream investment banking in 2001 and worked for various UK financial services companies at board level (including CEO) before setting up a Merchant Banking partnership in 2009.

I was fortunate to be selected to join the NHS Executive Fast Track Leadership Programme (EFTP) in 2014 and this gave me insight into the needs of the NHS and the importance of the appropriate strategy and how it should be deployed. My commitment to the NHS is personal because, as a cancer patient, I gained insight into a service that made a real difference to lives. This was something that I wanted to be part and spawned a vision of an organisation that positively engages staff, service users and other stakeholders.

I have extensive experience in NHS Strategy, commercial development and complex partnerships, system design, business management, legal frameworks, creation of innovative partnerships and system development across a number of health and care systems. I have demonstrated an ability to work at system level to achieve the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan including new models of care and the development of new delivery vehicles to improve patient care. Most recently this has included the development of organisational frameworks within an integrated care system and local planning for place-based care, primary care and urgent and emergency care.
